I can make music with my eyes closed. I can write and record all day until my fingers swell and my mouth turns blue. Music comes naturally to me. But after hours of working in the studio, what's next?
How do I get my music heard? I can't just blast it out the trunk of the car. I go to my DJ. I let him hear my tracks, and he let's me know if I need to change anything.
DJs are the new A&Rs. They know music and play a key role in artists' careers. DJs from all over the world play music that the people love and enjoy.
DJs are the life-blood of music. Without them, a song -- even a hot song -- is dead. That's why I salute DJs. My respect and appreciation for them are magnified in my song, Shoutout to the DJ. It is an anthem to the men and women on the wheels of steel. It puts the spotlight on the people who really give the music to the public.
Years ago, I met DJ Drama when I was in high school, and he talked about what he did for the streets. He fed them with music, earning him the nickname Mr. Thanksgiving. And, trust me. He feeds the streets.
I remember being in South Carolina when Young Jeezy’s Trap or Die (Gangsta Grillz Edition) dropped. Everybody had it, including myself. The music was in demand and DJ Drama supplied it. Drama and other DJs did their work and got Jeezy’s music to the people -- The people who turn to DJs for the best of the industry. That's the power of the turntable.
With humble gratitude, Shoutout To All DJs. I appreciate the service you provide. Keep On Rockin'!
